For more than 25 years, Wade and Sharon Sigrest have faithfully served as missionaries in the island nation of the Philippines. Now living on the island of Cebu, the Sigrests are committed to sharing the gospel and building relationships within their community. Through their house church and weekly Bible studies with local residents, they create welcoming spaces where people can encounter God’s Word and grow in faith together.

In this inspiring curriculum unit, students learn about the Sigrests’ ministry and the unique challenges and opportunities of serving across the several islands of the Philippines. As the director of Send Relief International projects across four geographical regions, Wade frequently travels between islands, helping coordinate outreach and compassionate ministry efforts.

Drawing from Mark 1:16–18, Wade reminds students that all believers are called to make disciples. This lesson helps students understand that making disciples isn’t limited to missionaries overseas; it’s a calling for every follower of Christ.

Students will also explore practical outreach ideas inspired by the Sigrests’ own experiences. Simple acts such as inviting someone into your home, asking about their life, listening with care, and offering to pray can open meaningful opportunities to share the gospel.

This unit encourages students to:
• Discover what missionary life looks like in the Philippines
• Understand their own role in Christ’s mission
• Learn practical, everyday ways to share their faith
• Pray for missionaries and the people they serve

Through real-life stories and biblical teaching, students will be challenged to see that God can use ordinary moments — and ordinary people — to make an eternal difference.

Involve your teenagers in ongoing missions discipleship and empower them to discover their own roles as disciples of Jesus who live on mission. Through each unit of Missions Journey: Students, teens will meet missions personnel serving all around the world, be encouraged to grow in discipleship, and become active agents of gospel change in their own communities.

This fully-digital resource contains plans for four weekly sessions, including links to the missions videos, missions project ideas, supplemental activities, prayer activities, and a leader devotion.

This material is designed for students in grades 7–12. WMU recommends adult leaders preview all lesson and video content before sharing it with their students.
